Today’s photo is a travel picture. Mabry Mill, one of the most scenic stops along the Blue Ridge Parkway, is located at Milepost 176, just across the Virginia state line. There you can see a restored grist mill, enjoy a country-style breakfast or lunch at the restaurant, and browse the gift shop.

Hmm…What does a trip to the Grand Canyon have to do with things to do in Jacksonville? Probably nothing, except to show that when we Floridians go on vacation, we frequently travel places different from where we live.
One of my favorite areas to visit is the canyon country out West. Last summer, my sisters and I hiked across the Grand Canyon. There was an unexpected heat wave, and temperatures reached 114 . It was an adventure that still brings back fond memories. Here’s a video of our trip:
If you go: The trek is 27 miles, including a side trip to Ribbon Falls. If you’d like meals and a bed for the night while at the bottom of the canyon, advance reservations at Phantom Ranch are a must! Cannot say enough good words about Arizona Outback Adventures and our guide, Nick Martin. This is a trip we were glad we did not attempt by ourselves!
