Have you noticed the flurry of new construction on San Jose Boulevard lately? Here are some of the new businesses coming our way:
Dogtown USA – 11740 San Jose Boulevard. A luxury dog care facility is coming in the Mandarin South space vacated by Atlantic Furniture. We love our pets in Mandarin! Learn more at dogtownresorts.com.
FYE (For Your Eyes Only) Salon & Spa – 12107 San Jose Boulevard. Remember this building? It was formerly an African-American church. Kudos to FYE for preserving and beautifying this piece of Mandarin’s history! The Grand Opening was last weekend.
The Learning Center – 11945 San Jose Boulevard. Mandarin is a a family-oriented community, and there are lots of children! The Learning Center is located in the Cormorant Professional Center.
Dunkin Donuts – 11800 block of San Jose Boulevard. The old Scott Pharmacy building is down, and work was going on even on Labor Day for a new Dunkin Donuts. YUM! This is right on my way to the office at RE/MAX Specialists!
All of these businesses are within a mile of each other on San Jose Boulevard – a hopeful sign of the improving economy. Welcome to our Mandarin community!
Last weekend was a wonderful 3 days for the First Coast area’s shelter animals. Here’s a summary of what happened:
- 950 total adoptions – more than 96% of all pets available found homes
- Largest pet adoption event ever in the nation
- 10,000+ attendees, not including volunteers and team members
What was most impressive was seeing the teams of the Jacksonville Humane Society, Animal Care and Protective Services, First Coast No More Homeless Pets and all the shelter and rescue groups working together seamlessly as one.
Here are two of my pictures taken just after opening:
Special thanks to Pet Smart Charities and Best Friends Animal Society for their support, and to Rick DuCharme, founder and executive director of First Coast No More Homeless Pets.
This weekend, First Coast No More Homeless Pets and its coalition partners are hosting the largest ever adoption event in Jacksonville. Our goal is to find lifelong, loving homes for 600+ dogs, cats, kittens and puppies.
Here are the details:
- Dates: July 13, 14, 15
- Time: 10:00 am – 6:00 pm
- Place: Jacksonville Fairgrounds and Expo Center
Adoption fee is just $25, and includes spay/neuter, vaccines, micro-chip, and city license. In honor of those who serve or have served, all active duty and retired military will be given totally FREE adoptions.
I have volunteered at several adoption events and will be there Saturday. It is heart-warming to see so many beautiful pets walk out with their new families! This weekend’s adoption event will be a huge step towards reaching our goal of becoming a no-kill community.
Thank you for helping Jacksonville’s dogs and cats!
